RELICS: The Last Cut - Pennywise 1990 (IT)
"They float... they all float, Georgie! And when you're down here with me, you'll float too!"
Concept
This sculptural work is part of RELICS: The Last Cut, the curatorial line of The Frame Beyond dedicated to what remains when the final act has already been accomplished. Not the origin. Not the action. The aftermath.
Inspired by Tim Curry's legendary performance in the 1990 cult masterpiece, the work extracts the shapeshifting entity from the sewers of Derry to solidify it in real space. Not the reassuring balloon clown, but the definitive break from fiction: the relic of the predatory form at the climax of terror.
The Work
The wall sculpture captures Pennywise's most visceral and disturbing expression: the insane, penetrating gaze from vitreous yellow eyes, the scarlet nose, and the gigantic mouth agape with double rows of sharp teeth, painted with microscopic care to enhance biological textures and tormented gums.
The iconic sculptural masses of red hair frame the waxy skull, hand-finished with deep chiaroscuro shading that gives the work a solemn, menacing, and overwhelming wall presence.
