RELICS: Digital Remains - Psycho Mantis

The Concept

No enemy in video game history has violated the space between player and screen like Psycho Mantis. He didn't just fight a character: he read your Memory Card, made the controller move on surfaces, turned off the video signal, forced you to change ports on the front of the console.

In RELICS: Digital Remains, Mantis completes his ultimate transfiguration. He exits the digital simulation and invades real architectural space. The bust constrained in harnesses and the detached arms suspended in mid-air create an unsettling telekinetic presence, frozen at the exact point where thought becomes tangible physical force.

The Work & Modular Setup

The work is conceived as a wall-mounted sculptural installation in 3 independent elements:

• Main Bust: the detailed gas mask with glossy ochre lenses and the armor-shaped bust with straps and a raised central ring.
• Telekinetic Forearms & Hands (2 detached pieces): projected forward into the room with black gloves and exposed bare fingertips, designed to be freely positioned around the bust, amplifying the effect of levitation and perspective disruption.

Creative Process & Finish

Each piece is entirely sculpted, finished, and hand-painted in Italy at the workshop The Frame Beyond:

• Ultra-High Resolution 3D Printing: sculptural definition of folds, straps, metal rivets, and anatomical textures.
• Multi-Layer Artisan Painting: matte leather black finish with chiaroscuro contrasts, satin effect on straps, and glossy finish on ocular lenses.
• Autonomous Collector's Piece: not a conventional painting, but a wall sculpture that transforms the wall into a psionic portal.
